The Elephant

                                                                  THE ELEPHANT

 * The Sri Lankan elephant is a subspecies of the Asian elephant found only in Sri Lanka.

*  It is the largest of all Asian elephant subspecies and is known for its impressive size and strength.

* Sri Lankan elephants usually live in forests, grasslands, and national parks across the island.

*  Popular parks like Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park are famous for elephant sightings.

* These elephants are herbivores and eat grass, leaves, fruits, and bark every day.

* They play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem.

* In Sri Lankan culture, elephants are respected and often take part in traditional festivals and religious events.

* The annual Esala Perahera features beautifully decorated elephants in a grand procession.

*  Unfortunately, habitat loss and human-elephant conflict are major threats to their survival.

 * Protecting Sri Lankan elephants is important to preserve the natural heritage and wildlife of Sri Lanka.
